What are your thoughts on vanilla ice? No, not the rapper, the beverage.
As the seasons change, so do the drinks orders as some caffeine drinkers opt for a more refreshing coffee.
My dad, a strict americano, white, one sugar drinker doesn’t get iced coffee, although to be fair he doesn’t really get any ‘fancy’ coffee as he calls it.
My mum however, was converted to iced coffee last summer thanks to yours truly. Cappuccino, no sugar, lots of chocolate powder was always her order of choice, even on hot days. But on one particular day I could see her obviously eyeing up a caramel iced latte that I had ordered. Since then, as soon as the temperature rises past 16 degrees, she’s iced coffee all the way.
I personally do not discriminate when it comes to my coffee, as long as it is made with good quality beans and a loving hand, I pretty much like them all.
The perfect iced coffee for me goes something like this: a double shot espresso (all the ice, milk and flavourings tend to weaken the overall coffee flavour if you only have a single), vanilla syrup (sugar free if I’m watching the waist line), milk, a whole lot of ice and if it’s a treat I can’t help but go for a large helping of whipped cream and caramel syrup.
The traditionalists may be screaming blasphemy at the screen that the only way to drink coffee is hot but seriously, don’t knock it till you’ve tried it.
So, next time the sun is out and you’re off for your mid-morning energy boost, give the iced coffee a go.
